Playing with Food

Beverly Stephen - September 2013

New York City–Seattle-based photographer/photojournalist Christopher Boffoli turns the world upside down in his charming book Big Appetites. More than 100 photographs juxtapose Lilliputian folks against supersized food accompanied by tongue-in-cheek captions. Astronauts encounter an ice cream sandwich monolith. Soccer players kick peppercorns. Workers saw string beans, use pickaxes to crack walnuts and wield jackhammers to open pistachios. “Sneezing added a challenging element to the game,” Boffoli deadpans, and for the photo below notes that the “deluxe carbonara option was cancelled after too many customers lost mirrors and antennas.”
