New York City—No, not farm-fresh produce. These radishes, along with carrots and asparagus, leeks and onions, strawberries and raspberries, even an orange peel, are exquisite brooches and earrings, made by renowned Paris-based American jeweler Joel A. Rosenthal, who works under the name JAR. Nature is the inspiration for his brilliantly colored fantasies in precious stones, ranging from butterflies and flowers to a chicken and egg brooch with sapphires, diamonds, silver, and gold, and an antique cameo. Irreverent and witty, JAR also combines stones with other materials for three-dimensional pieces on display, including a box in the shape of a nut tart, a wooden bagel, and a rock crystal and jasper scoop of vanilla ice cream on a plate.
