Twist of the Senses: Art-Inspired Cocktails at the Pierre

Six degrees of separation? Well, technically it's a seven block stroll from Manhattan’s posh Pierre Hotel on Fifth Avenue to the Park Avenue Armory—now host to temporary but monumental avant-garde art exhibitions—but it was an easy leap for the hotel’s Two E Bar/Lounge manager, Ryan Drushel, who was seeking a promotional tie-in with one of the city's cultural institutions.
Drushel and Two E Bar/Lounge mixologist Sachin Hasan were inspired by the armory’s summer installation of Los Angeles multimedia provocateur, Paul McCarthy, to create a seasonal "Twist of the Senses" cocktail menu. McCarthy’s WS exhibition piece is a subversive, adults-only re-imagining of Walt Disney’s classic tale Snow White, featuring a fantastical forest with over 20-feet-tall trees and gigantic flowers, and explicit video projections. "His installation," Drushel admits, "takes the twist a bit further then we anticipated, but the same can be said of our cocktails when they are experienced as well."
Before heading to the armory, art lovers can awaken the senses with one of Hasan’s seductive drinks like the Smoking Strawberry, a lovely pink concoction of Belvedere vodka, Fragoli liqueur, St. Germaine, pineapple juice, lime juice, and Ardbeg Single Malt. After the show, the aptly named Wicked Manhattan—combining Patrón Añejo Tequila, cassis, Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay, Peychaud's bitters, and Chartreuse—or the Fantasy Garden—made with Bacardi rum, Midori, Crème de Pêche, pineapple juice, orange juice, lime juice, and Angostura bitters—seem apropos.
