Fall-ing For Sweets
Meryle Evans - September 27th, 2013
It's homage to the harvest this autumn at Manhattan's Spot Dessert Bars in the East Village and Koreatown, where chef Ian Kittichai has rolled out new confections to harmonize with the season. The playful Asian-accented, fruit-based, low-sugar sweets, as easy on the eye as on the palate, include the realistic looking Big Apple, a raspberry coated soft cheesecake with walnuts and orange salad, and a roasted peach and almond crumble accompanied by vanilla bean ice cream. The Harvest, a surprise served in a flower pot, is deconstructed at the table to reveal a fruit and berry shortcake with cocoa cookie crumbs that is napped with black rose tea anglaise.
Kittichai, a partner with Chace Restaurant Group at the two locations, who shuttles back and forth to his various restaurants in New York City and Thailand, dubs the desserts "A New Spin on Sweet."
